The cytologic findings of 202 aspirates obtained by the fine needle aspiration technique from the head and neck masses were compared with the histology of the permanent section and the results of clinical follow-up.
@ES The results obtained were as follow ;
@EN 1) FNAC for head and neck masses shows the overall concurrence rate of 78.2% and the overall diagnostic accuracy of 51.5%.
2) FNAC for malignant head and neck masses, malignant lymph nodes, malignant lesions of soft tissue, bone & oral cavity shows concurrence rate of 82.9%, 76.7%, 83.8% and diagnostic accuracy of 61.8%, 75.0%, 75.0%, respectively.
3) FNAC for malignant and benign salivary gland tumors shows concurrence rate of 62.5%, 73.7% and diagnostic accuracy of 50.0%, 57.9%, respectively.
